How many potatoes does McCain use? ›

Many of our delicious products are made from potatoes and vegetables grown on farms around the world. McCain currently partners with around 3,500 farmers, harvesting nearly 6.8 million tons of potatoes every year.

Confirming the news to The Sun, a McDonald's spokesman said: "We work with two suppliers to make our world famous fries, McCain and Lamb Weston – partnering with them for over 30 years.

Our World Famous Fries® are made from quality potatoes, including Russet Burbank, Ranger Russet, Umatilla Russet and the Shepody. The suppliers we work with first peel, cut and blanche the potatoes. They then dry, partially fry and quickly freeze the fries for our restaurants.

In the United States, the J. R. Simplot Company is credited with successfully commercialising french fries in frozen form during the 1940s. Subsequently, in 1967, Ray Kroc of McDonald's contracted the Simplot company to supply them with frozen fries, replacing fresh-cut potatoes.

A French fry plant is purchased in Easton, Maine, U.S. and new plant opens in Whittlesey, UK. A major expansion of our prepared foods plant in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada is completed.

Who bought McCain Pizza? ›

The company has signed a deal to buy the pizza operations of New Brunswick-based McCain Foods. Dr. Oetker, which began producing frozen pizzas at its $100-million London plant in May, acquired pizza plants in Grand Falls, N.B., and Lodi, N.J. in the deal announced Wednesday.

McCain Foods (India) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of McCain Foods Limited in Canada. Since 1998, the company has been engaged in agriculture research and development (R&D) and in the development of the frozen food market in India and other countries of the subcontinent.

After blanching and drying, the fries go into the fryer which has a temperature of 200°C. Each fry is par fried from ½ minute to 5 minutes depending on the type of potato. The strips are then shaken on a vibrating conveyor to remove any excess cooking oil.

McCAIN uses only 100% vegetable oil in the par-fry process which ensures that we provide our customers with high quality, healthy and nutritious fries.
